The AP started as an IDEA. A vision for a future community. A community to celebrate the working actors who don’t live in luxury or the tabloids. The working actors who struggle to work AS actors. Therefore, the AP celebrates the backbone of the community by celebrating the essence of acting itself—--the WORK. The Actor’s Proletariat is dedicated to building a community of artists committed to putting the work first. We believe there should be a place to exercise and “work out” for our craft--—an environment where we can stay creatively "fit." We are looking for actors who want to explore material through risk taking, exercise, and failure. We are looking for folks who are ready to forget about the gig and put the focus where it belongs with a return to basics—--a dedicated investigation of the Art of Acting.
Every year the acting profession is flooded with more avenues to pursue your career. However, with these new avenues come greater temptations for fame, distractions, and career worry. We live in an industry driven by scripted reality shows, You Tube/Viral video stardom, and American Idolism. It’s very easy to lose sight of why you wanted to act in the first place. And the work gets moved to the background.
We all crave the consistency and livelihood of a steady paycheck within the field we love, right? Why wouldn't we? That's the DREAM. So we try to figure out the perfect equation that will make everything fall into place. We try to think one step ahead so we can predict what "they" are looking for. We go to every audition we can find. We look for every open call we can get into. Spend hundreds of dollars in postage for countless mailings of pictures and resumes to every agent and casting director in town. We do showcase after showcase after showcase but in our pursuit of a career -- because it's so easy to get caught up in being a professional -- we lose sight of being an artist. We are not against career or business. BUT! As the artist slides away so does our faith in the art form.
It is time to TAKE BACK acting for the Actor!
