starting at $30 an hour.
Classes meet weekly on Mondays from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Each session is thirteen weeks. However, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have a conflict with the date and time. As we grow -- so will additional classes. We are committed to develop as many opportunities for actors as we can.
What to expect:
With the exception to improvisation, an actor’s work is entirely dedicated to being truthful with someone else’s’ words. Therefore, I believe it is incredibly essential for actors to use text, more specifically scene work, to strengthen and develop their technique. That is the goal of our classes at The AP.
Sessions begin with neutral scenes to establish the “Give and Take” with scene partners. The work continues with neutral scenes to introduce sending Action (defined as: “How do I want to make you Feel?”) between actors. From there students dive into partnered scene work, chosen from contemporary playwrights, to work on fulfilling the Tasks/Objectives as discovered within the text. Each week students will present ten minute scenes followed by feedback and a working session with the instructor. Students learn to use the text and their imaginations to inform organic choices to exist truthfully within the scene’s imaginary circumstances.
For the advanced classes, the main goal is to create an environment where actor’s can use scene work to explore and take creative risks. Therefore, we tackle the work head on with actors choosing, or being assigned material, to build upon their existing technical foundation. The class uses an investigative approach to inspire actors to find new ways to answer “Who am I? Where am I? What do I want? What do I do to get what I want? What do I do after I get what I want/don’t get what I want?” to deepen their process. We focus on guiding our actors to discover a roadmap for bold and consistent performances.
Our classes are small, with only 10 to 12 students per class. By keeping the numbers low we are able to give each student an opportunity to work and work often. In many scene study classes you present, receive feedback, and are then sent off to work some more on your own or move on to the next scene. Here we dig in. We want you to learn how to incorporate adjustments and develop a healthy and successful technique. We do that with hands on investigation.

It's a joy to work with Austin. His focus on truth and objective have a way of bringing out the best of both the actor and the scene. He strikes a skillful balance between encouragement and not-letting-you-off-the-hook...that challenges an actor in the most productive way
